DSOBS Inter House Cricket: February 28th, 2004
By Nalin Khanna

The 3rd DSOBS Inter House Cricket was held on Feb 28 on 2 grounds of the Central Secretariat followed by a dinner at the Thai Wok. More than 111 Dosco's (plus wives/girlfriends) attended the cricket and dinner. The format allowed all Dosco's to play. Mr. Vohra did the customary toss and Kashmir played against Jaipur and Tata played Hyderabad. Despite Bharat waging a lone battle, Kashmir sailed through easily. Notwithstanding an inspiring effort by Pepe Dugal and Asheet Lanba, Tata fought an unsuccessful battle against Hyderabad. Jaipur played Tata for the 3/4 place and after Dicky's success with the willow and Asheet's fiery spell it seemed as if the fate of Jaipur was doomed. But Jaipur fought back with a century stand between Ranjan Bhalla("Itkan") and Vivek Seth to see the halpless Gurmit 'Hardout' Singh bowling 2 wides in the last over for Jaipur to reach the target by one run. In the finals Kashmir house youngsters outran the Hyderabad house veterans and their total of 201 proved too much for Hyderabad house. It was commendable to see Brig Sundaram (class of 1944) on the field for the full 20 overs.

The event was well sponsored by Daks clothing, DSP-Mutual Fund, SOTC travels and Becks. The Malhotra's (Vipin and Anil) made arrangements for all the liquid that flowed during the day/evening/night. Asheet Lanba, Sandeep Sharma, Vivek Seth and Arun Khanna all chipped in to ensure a successful event. This year we had 5 participants who came in specially for the event from out of town- Vinit Khanna from Philadelphia, Dicky from Bangalore, Vivan Patel from Baroda, Subroto Khan from Lucknow and Nikhil Poddar from Calcutta. We hope to add to the numbers for the next year event which is likely to be on Feb 26, 2005.
